It

I

SLEEP.
A
full night.

I
fantasise about it.

I
talk about it. A lot. The more I talk, the more I learn that I am not alone. I
am drawn to mums at the playground white knuckling coffee cups, with greasy
hair and odd shoes. And then I heard about the groclock. I swear my heart literally skipped a beat…could it be?
Would it be? Was this my answer?

The
groclock (from grobag fame; loved
‘em!) displays a blue star (during sleep hours) and counts down to a yellow,
smiling sun (at the time that you have previously set). Sounds simple?
Well…yes. It is. I did hit a little bump when I discovered there was no
battery option; but a quick juggle of extension cords and furniture and we were
sorted. It was super simple to set up with pretty basic instructions, even for
me. What made it even better was the free, little book that explains in
‘kidspeak’ why sleep is important for mummy…KIDS…I mean kids. I also saw it as a way to get my pre-kinder son interested in the basic idea of clocks and time.

Truthfully,
it was not an overnight success in our house.

I
was sceptical that a clock could keep my son in bed without…well…superglue?
But it actually did, even on day 1. It ‘s just that he was busting to see that
sun rise so much that he was calling out from 5am onwards to tell me it was
still star time. BUT, he was in bed…I figure, kids genuinely want to
please us and he knew the rules of this new game. I also learnt not to be overly ambitious. I
had set the clock first up at a fairytale fantasy hour. I am slowly building up
to that.

And
now…a few nights on…?
This morning, Husband and I were both up and about,
waiting to hear his little feet padding up the hallway. Nothing. Until his sun
came up and he came out for breakfast. Really? REALLY? Yep. Yes. It happened.

IT
IS WORKING….I am holding my breath, but SO FAR, SO GOOD!
And
what is the eternal question we ask ourselves as we lie awake thinking at night??? – “Is (s)he too hot/too cold?” Well, there is also a groegg; a little dome that acts as a night light (at left in picture above), as well as
indicating the room temperature. It glows red for too hot, through to blue for
too cold. Finally, I can gauge if we need some air conditioner on for a bit, or
throw an extra blanket on…I can actively do something; not toss and turn and
guess.
So,
my friends, this is my on line version of “shouting from the rooftops”. This
product (so far) is fantastic and I’ve a few people in mind who might just be
getting one for Christmas. (Just act surprised!)
