#NB I was super lucky to be gifted my very own, personalised statuette in order to review. However, they are simply stunning, hence all the wonderful things I say are entirely my own honest opinions.
Sometimes I want to break out in song like Mary Poppins.
Now SHE is a woman on top of her game – flies kites, takes no lip, sorts that Jane and Michael out stat, even rallies behind the relationship of Mr and Mrs Banks.
Good ole’ Mary.
She has got that family all figured out….
But of course, she can just blow in and blow out whenever she wants to.
Not so I.
Just when I think I know which way is up, I am often flung heavily back to earth.
My son now HATES that breakfast cereal that he loved last week.
My daughter will not, for love or money, let me put her nappy on, but she refuses to sit on the toilet.
Husband is cycling Sunday morning. It is on the calendar and everything, but I just forgot.
THUMP. Back to earth.
So I needed a pick me up; a little reminder that my best is always good enough, regardless if the milk is off and SAO biscuits are the main course tonight.
I discovered these beauties.
A timely reminder of just what it means to be a mum.
A reminder that I will never have it all figured out AND THAT’S OK.
Family is all that stuff that we leap over in our rush to jam little people into coats and get out the door in the morning.
It is the Octonauts that you step on, still half asleep in the shower recess each day.
It is the plastic bag bursting with nappies that you ‘rock, paper, scissors’ with Husband to avoid dealing with.
It is the much needed Friday date night at home with cheap wine and takeaway; and children who keep sneaking down to us in the lounge room.
It is finding yourself on hands and knees picking sultanas out of the lounge room rug.
It is ensuring that baby panadol is well stocked in the medicine cabinet.
It is all this ‘stuff’ and so much more.
But of course, there is all the lovely things; the simple things; the easy things. The early morning, tiny hand face stroke, chubby legs jumping waves at the beach and the innocent jibes about my squishy bottom. There are scooter rides, new pets and playing with friends.
These gorgeous moments are all there, featured in Figured out Families (well; not the squishy bottom part thank goodness). The fun part is picking out the symbolic images for each of your people. My piece retailed at $64, but this varies according to your selection and how many figures you require.
Delicate, white and wooden, these precious statuettes aim to capture your family. Who are they? What are their passions? What makes them happy? This is an Australian based family business, who all pitch in together to make their dream work; even if the kids think they can invoice them for their time. And they are simply lovely, genuine people to work with.
Figured these guys out??? No chance. Corn was once his favourite ‘sure thing’ vegetable; not today apparently. She has simply gone AWOL for dinner. |
Lo and behold there is a wine sipping woman, reclining like a lady with smashing heels…too easy…
The scooter boy shows my son crashing head long into everything – hopefully freedom and adventure.
The precious tutu wearing ballerina is all my twirling angel dreams of. Despite the fact that I cannot get her hair up into a bun without a bazillion hair clips, and her pirouettes normally end a little too suddenly at the kitchen bench.
The Husband; a no brainer. His passion…his other passion. Yes – Husband is a MAMIL (Middle Aged Man In Lycra). Rides half the week; googles it for the rest.
So, if you are looking for time to stand still; to hold on to your little loves a little bit longer, this might be something for you. I got mine in time for Mother’s Day, but what an awesome idea for a wedding gift as a couple starts their life together, or for a special birthday, or sadly even a gesture of sympathy during illness or after the death of a loved one, when words just don’t cut it. The figures can also be ordered and added to your original piece over time…in case you buy a new dog or the twins coming along are just a bit of a surprise.
Have I got my family figured out yet?
Not even close, but I do believe that is the beauty of the journey.
