Whilst sitting at my kitchen table last year, drinking wine and moaning to a forever friend that I felt too frumpy to fit into any of my ‘before children’ clothes anymore, I received the most amazing advice.
“Google Birdsnest,” she said.
“It’s simple,” she said.
“You’ll love it,” she said.
And bugger her to bits; I was hooked.
So despite ‘online’ clothes shopping once being a grave fear of mine, a beautiful romance began.
Because, my friends, I solemnly promise you; this ‘shop’ is different.
It actually takes a lot of the mystery out of online purchases…you see, you just plug in your body shape, including the wobbly bits you want to hide , the bits you want to show off, and the Birdsnest babes do the rest. But wait…there’s more. Now just type in the occasion…afternoon drinks, wedding, races, etc and it will pull up a whole outfit for you! Shoes and accessories included …badabing! Immediate results. Some images include a video and the reviews are honest and an essential read. Often they mention if it is a ‘snug’ size, or rate the quality of the material, or simply give their honest opinion. I always make sure I have a good squiz in this section.
Even if the budget doesn’t quite stretch to buying all the time, I love getting ideas and working out how to accentuate my ‘good’ bits; whilst hiding the ‘not so good’ bits. Don’t get me wrong. I love shopping. I love shopping inside stores. I love lazily touching and trying on clothes, mixing and matching tops and bottoms, looping necklaces around my neck and feeling the texture of the handbags. I love strolling aimlessly through the shops, listening to daggy, old music and doing a bit of people watching.
But; pinch me.
I have two small kids.
The clothes racks have become their personal jungle gym and the assistants aren’t quite so lovely when you’re screaming at kids to, “PUT THAT DOWN”, over their elegantly coiffed heads. Even those carefully distributed lollypops, given to buy a few minutes of silence, are rightfully glared at, as I duck in and out shops. More often than not, the trip ends in one, or all of us, having a meltdown; often me. Regularly, we head back to the car empty handed, or sporting some over sized top that I grabbed in desperation without trying on and have buyers regret before I even make it home.
If you are nodding along, then take a look at this online store. Shopping becomes a whole new event when the kids are tucked up in bed, you have a glass of wine in hand (just remember:…more wine = more spending…don’t say I didn’t warn you), there is no time pressure and you can flick along at your own pace. This is also a fantastic option for you girls living in the country. In fact, this store was started by country ladies, seeking more options for stylish dressing with limited store options. The Birdsnest girls get it.
And here’s another clincher…there’s a 365 day return policy. If you don’t like it? If it doesn’t sit right? If it wasn’t what you expected? You have a year to return it. This is at your own expense (flat rate of $7.95); but obviously totally worth it if you just don’t like it, will never wear it and want your money back.
So I did a little shopping.
It was lazy and decadent and I could take my time for a change.
A cheeky purchase from a little while ago…heavy earrings, loads bigger than I’m used to, but definitely has the ‘wow’ factor for me.
I ‘tried on’ outfits, got some great ideas for ‘basics’ that I think I need in my closet (next time, *sigh), but ultimately I wanted something for a wintry girls night out. Let me just say, these ladies have style. They also understand that we are not all fashion models. I have a little more to cuddle than I would like right now, but it doesn’t mean I can’t look fabulous and more importantly, FEEL fabulous.
Here are a few options I played with….
I liked this one. Hid the bad bits in the middle, though tipping I was breathing in… And CHEERS!
Dress up or dress down. Soft, quality material…team with a scarf or belt. Super comfy, yet a bit spesh compared to my standard ‘safe’ black norm.
Grabbed this one a while back and have already worn it a zillion times. Glam with heels, or keep warm with tights and boots. LOVE IT.
So I totally put myself behind this online store.
They really are the ‘whole’ package! (right through to literally, the packaging! You will get what I mean when your first parcel arrives). Though it stocks over 250 suppliers ranging from JAG to Metalicus, it also has 5 home grown labels, and these classy birds somehow seem to know exactly what I need.
If, like me, you are frightened that the next shop assistant who gives you that fake, thin smile whilst you peel a 2 year old off their in-store mannequin, might end up wearing that lollypop, do yourself a favour and jump across to Birdsnest; top birds indeed.
