REVIEW OF THE CAMELBAK EDDY DRINK BOTTLE FOR KIDS
Recently I stole something.
It started quite innocently.
I was off to sport with the kids. You know the drill. Pack the bag full of everything and nothing, throw in snacks and water bottles, scream (nicely) at the kids to put on shoes and get moving, tear off to the car, notice the big milk moustaches still around their mouths, do the mum lick ‘n wipe’, and then you’re off…after a seat belt false start to rebuckle half way out the driveway. You arrive as the whistle blows and the game begins. You give the little one a biscuit health bar to chew on and you flop back in your plastic seat to cheer wildly. That done, you sneak your hand into your bag to grab out your phone for a little social media flick and…wait…what’s that…water???? NOOO!!!! The drink bottles have leaked again. You frantically save your phone and purse from the flood and stare stupidly at the water stain beginning to spread across the base of your fake leather bag. Surely I’m not the only one, right?
It is not the first time, but I decided that it needed to be the last.
So I looked around.
I darted off some sideways weirdo looks at these organised mums around me.
I peered oh so slightly into their bags and realised I was the only one there, (according to my ‘A1’ detective skills) with the supermarket drink bottle ‘ah la cheapo’ specials. It seems I may have been wiser to spend that little bit extra to get a drink bottle that was guaranteed SPILL PROOF. Yes; you read that correctly. The holy grail of parenting (behind sleep, obviously). I kept seeing the same brand up and down the row of leisure gear clad mummy’s; CAMELBAK.
So I stole their idea. I needed to get my hands on this treasure and fast.
CamelBak kindly gave me a one of their little numbers to try out.
Enter the .4l CamelBak Eddy; my daughter can negotiate it with one hand whilst still pointing directions forcefully at me with her other. It is BPA free of course, and there are loads of cute designs to pick from. And yes; it CAN go in the dishwasher.
“Ha!” I thought. “Wait till my kids get their hands on this! We’ll see who’s spill proof then, my friends!”
And…umm…no disasters. Yet.
I must admit, I have been burnt. I am still frightened to pack a drink bottle without putting it in a plastic bag first. But not once have I found evidence of flooding with this CamelBak Eddy style. Sure; my daughter took a while to grasp the idea of the ‘bite and suck’ valve. She was adamant that she needed to tip her head back, but she has got it together now.
You can grab them directly from the CamelBak store in the Sydney CBD (The Galeries, 500 George St) or online at CamelBak Australia . You can also find them popping up in a number of stores such as Baby Bunting and other trusted retailers. The RRP is $22.95. Worth its weight in…well…water.
But just as a small tip…. don’t leave the laptop open on the CamelBak page. I had one excited lycra legs husband who thought I was surprising him with some new gear.
Next time.
NB : The crew kindly gave me one of these suckers to try out on my little bruiser, but these opinions are all my own.
