A review of Yabadoo Kid’s Parties;
How to host a party and still have time to eat cheese and chat…
Mirror, mirror,
On the wall,
Who is the wildest
Of them all?
Well that would be my diva daughter of course!
But I promise you; that tiny child makes me tear my hair out with a smile on my face.
She likes Frozen and pink and dresses and balloons and my lip gloss. She also loves Hulk and running crazy circles at the park and kicking the footy with Daddy.
But what does she love the most right now?
Princesses.
I want to blame Frozen, but really, I remember trying to stretch my hair to look more like Rapunzel and sneaking Mum’s lipstick to put on my already pale cheeks to be Snow White. It was a beautiful little fantasy and I have no concerns about my feisty little one being lost in a gender stereotype whilst waiting for a Prince to save her. So this year, with her 3rd birthday fast approaching, I made it my mission to make this day amazing.
And the solution was simple.
Yabadoo Kid’s Parties. (Click for a flick)
I jumped online and checked out the characters and packages. Bingo. Booking was straightforward, so all I had to manage in the lead up to the big day was to keep the secret. My special visitor gave me a call a couple of days before to introduce herself, confirm the type of character I was after, and to tie up any loose ends. She happily allayed my fears that I was crazy hosting this party in a 2 bedroom, balcony apartment and reassured me that this was quite normal for Sydney.
Party day arrived.
I tidied the house, popped a frock on, brushed the kids hair, and checked on the food.
Done. Wait. Easy.
Although waiting for a party to start with two little kids? Not so easy…
But oh the look on my daughter’s face when a real live Princess arrived. Simply priceless.
As guests were still arriving, Princess Belle went straight to face painting. And it was good! Not some slapped on stars or rainbows like I might manage. In fact, Hulk was freakishly good! Look at that nose!
It was time for the show. Well worth booking the 1 1/2 or 2 hour package to get yourself a magic show. No fire. No rabbits. Just good old fashioned trickery. The kids were entranced. Despite the lure of lollies on the nearby table, they were glued to Princess Belle, shouting out all the right responses and even I was giggling along. Now; here’s the thing. At this point, adults can relax, actually chat, have a drink or 2, cast an eye over to ensure the kids are behaving, but ultimately, our Princess had this crew well in hand! The kids were screeching out wildly to “Wandy Poo”, pass the parcel saw everyone pick a prize (kids are still holding on to that parcel just a little too long, hoping maybe…maybe…this time…just like we all did…) and I do NOT know how that donut came out of her nose; kudos Princess! My kids are still talking about that one.
Next she slid in a spot of balloon twisting. What next? Juggling? Not quite, but if there is time permitting, there is a scavenger hunt (lasted 3 seconds in our small space) and tattoos. Lightsaber/sword balloons obviously lead to a bit of crazy play fighting where I held my breath and had to look away…but they had been sitting down beautifully and needed to burn off a bit off energy.
But oh..? Oh…
Me? Cue me.
Hostess.
Party food and drinks.
I had slipped into a great afternoon of watching the delight on the kids faces and not having to work my butt off. But alas; the Princess needed to leave. Where had that 1 1/2 hours gone? Despite begging her to leave her glass slipper so she would have to return to collect it (…and perhaps mind our kids later when the sugar high kicked in…) she was gone in a puff of smoke…and my teeny Princess cried. Bless. All OK as the tears disappeared with the mention of birthday cake.
The highlight for me?
Sure; having someone else run the show was such a relief and made the day so much easier. But the best part was that I actually got to be ‘present’ at my daughter’s party. I was able to watch her laugh and smile and mix with this beautiful group of kids. Not only did we help her make some fantastic memories, but I made my own and I will hug them tight.
So truly…

A big shout out to Ravi, Princess Belle and the team, for sending a free entertainer to our home to review. Seriously; she was awesome.
But as always; my blog; my opinions.
A special thanks to the families who brought their delightful kids along and allowed them to be a part of this review. She had the best day ever and was asleep by 7.15pm.
My ‘A’ is a lucky girl.
