Whilst chatting to a breastfeeding Mum recently about how it was all going, I found myself double clutching my breasts in a very public setting. Why is it, that every time I discuss feeding, I cannot keep my own hands off my breasts? Is this normal?
However, I digress.
Whilst having this conversation, I was transported back to ‘that’ time.
‘That’ time when my boobs swung freely about the lounge room, a change table sat alongside the TV, and day had suddenly become night…or maybe night was day…geeze I had no idea which way was up. I was swamped in nappies, breast pads and baskets of washing, whilst putting on my brave face and dutifully chopping fruit salad. I diligently tracked the ins and outs (literally) of my baby in an exercise book; and then promptly lost it under a pile of TV Box sets and “How to get your baby to sleep” self-help books.
Sure enough, a trip to the doc for a cold that wouldn’t shift off his little chest was met with the QUESTIONS….
“How many wet nappies? How many soiled nappies? How many mls is he taking? What is his weight? How much sleep is he having?”
Mouth open…brain gaping… “Ummmm…what was the first question again?”
Since my babies, the times have been a’changing.
Anything, ANYTHING AT ALL to make life easier for new parents.
So the crew over at Project Nursery joined their genius with Striiv and came up with this SmartBand. With a simple swipe and tap, you can now log all the feeds, sleeps, weight changes, medications and even breast pumps. It can even record fetal movements if you are still waiting for the big day. I cannot begin to imagine how much easier this would have made those first crazy few months.
But what I really loved, was the ‘me’ section (of course).
I loved that it had blue tooth, so that it sends me alerts for things like emails, instagram and incoming calls. It could track my weight, whether I have drank enough water, medication/vitamins I need to take and regularly sends me a bit of a ‘keep up the good fight’ kinda message.
Basically, I am no tech head, but it was incredibly simple to set up. Download the app, record your basic details and then insert whatever info you wish to record. The device itself needs charging and a little bit of time to play around with and get the gist of how it works. There is up to 30 days of battery life per charge; brilliant. One less thing for you to have to worry about.
So if and when required, all this info is there stored on your app. If you are heading off to the doc for you or your little one, you have all your info on hand (literally) and have record of any concerns or improvements.
Another bonus for me, is that when you give it a tap or a shake, it lights up with the time. Perfect for night time; the dull glow lets you know how many precious hours you have left, without having to grab your phone and check.
Oh…did I mention the 3 gorgeous bands you can pop the device in? Mix and match with your clothes or mood.
So I am a convert and I have been in touch with a friend with a freshie to tell her to shoot out to Harvey Norman (exclusive in-store suppliers: $248 at the time of publishing; worth its weight in wet wipes) and get herself one. Do have a peek at Project Nursery, too.
Oooops…there it goes…a silent vibrate and I need to head off to drink some water.
Nice to know someone is looking after me.

# Just FYI: I was gifted my SmartBand at the product launch, without any stated requirement to review. But gang…I just had to tell you all about it. If I was pregnant again (*cue tears of laughter…about another baby, not the product), I would absolutely invest in one.
