MOTHERHOOD THE MUSICAL :
Everything you ever thought about parenting…and so much more
Get the gaggle together, girlfriends, because this one is sure to test out your pelvic floor.
The Bondi Theatre Company has nailed the breathtaking highs of motherhood, whilst flipping those lows into something to giggle about. Every utterance about your baby that you ever shared at Mothers’ Group, every whine you have moaned down the phone to your BFF about the kids, every thought you have ever had about what it means to be a mother; they are all here, cleverly entwined in this hysterical 90 minute singing and dancing extravaganza.
The play sees four women, all in different stages of parenting, come together to ‘celebrate’ a baby shower with a fresh faced, hopeful, list wielding, soon to be mummy. It highlights the way these beautiful expectations of motherhood can slowly give way to the reality of coping with the many pressures of parenting. Light hearted topics from the joys of shopping bulk at Costco through to the frustrations of panty liners, merge with more serious issues such as juggling careers and dealing with weight gain and body issues.
You will be shrieking with laughter and clapping wildly along to all manner of songs, as you catch the eye of your girlfriend and shake your head with absolute knowledge of exactly what these ladies are singing about.
What better place to head to the theatre than upstairs at the iconic Bondi Pavilion. An intimate setting allows one to feel like you are part of the gang sipping vino and offering ‘advice’. It is also hugely helpful to know that parking after 7pm is free in the beach carpark during August.
A special thanks to David at the Bondi Theatre Company for inviting us, and also to Nat at Eastern Suburbs Mums for sending me along to check the show out. We made a night of it; yep – I dragged the hubster along and there were loads of guys there laughing along wildly, too. He totally got it and has not been scarred by partaking in ‘secret women’s business’.
The season is short (Aug 17-26), so definitely head to http://www.bonditheatrecompany.com.au today to grab your ticket. Oh…and you might want to grab one for your mother, too, because the delights of Granny features strongly.
You really MUST make this the one to see.
Thanks for the mammaries, Bondi Theatre Company.
