A year ago today I welcomed another baby into our crazy chaos.
She is the apple of my eye; my bundle of fun…in fact,I would go so far as to admit she is my low maintenance
baby…the one I turn to when I’ve had a crushing, long day and I need a good whinge…the one that I want to share my secrets with…the one I want to introduce all my friends to.
My love child, Mummy Muckups (this very blog) went live a whole year ago today.
And, just as I would do for my other kids, it’s time to celebrate, baby!!
Oh… but you see…I don’t do ‘bake’.
I totally do EAT cake, but am useless at cooking. What I have in my mind, and what translates to the birthday centre piece, never quite align. To date, I have bought pre-cooked sponge slabs or box mixes, ready made icing and…well…stuck things on that the kids like. My son’s first birthday cake had little rubber ducks on it; my daughter got plastic crocodiles (kinda suggests their personalities methinks). They loved it. But I could hardly slap a few pens or a laptop on a cake for Mummy Muckups now, could I?
So who heard my cries of anguish?
Cassandra, over at Sugar Coated Anarchy, came to my rescue. She stepped in with a generous heart and the coolest cake, which really captured the light hearted fun of this blog…and it was CHOCOLATE!!!
She designed this for me to eat in one sitting share with my family and truly made this day special. Cake tends to do that, right? Such a pleasure to work with and a really funky store. Cassandra even hosts in store cupcake parties ; something different and memorable and, just as importantly, you don’t have to clean up. Definitely worth checking out, especially if something in your life needs a little sugar coating.
But what else might you require at a party???
Well; fine wine of course.
So I made another new friend.
He stocks boutique wines, actually helps you pick what’s right for your occasion, and has it delivered to you. Jake, of Garrick’s Wine , knows his stuff. You see, whilst I like to drink vino, he can actually explain what makes it so good. And, he even MAKES wine himself…so, I totally had to think about it for a whole of 2 seconds when he offered me some to taste and use in my birthday celebrations.
Cold and white is the normal requirement of my sip standards, but this Chenin Blanc did actually throw me. I wanted to savour it; not just quaff it. I wanted to recline ever so slightly, peer knowledgably at the label on the bottle, and remark oh so suavely on the year and grape variety. So I did…(ish). Even the label had a sense of fun, reflecting the creative character that is Jacob Allan; check out his web site …he is also an Aussie actor and if you love great Aussie drama like I do, you will totally know this guy.
So please excuse me now whilst I go and polish off the rest of my cake. I guess my wine will be looked after tonight; to be enjoyed when the kids are tucked up in bed. I just wanted to extend a massive thanks to Cassandra of Sugar Coated Anarchy and Jake of Garrick’s Wine. You have truly transformed my blogging birthday into a celebration.
Now…how the heck am I going to top this for the kids actual birthdays this year???
May just have to give my new friends a call.
