Was feeling a little ‘bah humbug’ about Christmas and trying to pull it all together. I was stressing about gifts, packing, travelling and all the other ‘stuff’.
And then a few fabulous things happened.
A friend flew in for the weekend to visit me; an incredible effort and so appreciated when feeling a long way from ‘home’ at this time of the year.
This glow was quickly overshadowed when minor disaster struck. You know the gap in the lift where the doors slide over? That gap that you sometimes wonder, “imagine if the kids dropped something down there?” Well, yesterday the husband dropped the only set of keys for his car straight down. $450 call out fee the week of Christmas. Until Paddy called back to say he was in the area, and could swing by and grab it for us. On a Sunday afternoon. No charge. My hero.
Finally, last night we headed to the #coogeecarols. Now I like a tune & the kids like to dance (check them out over on my Instagram ?), but this was mind blowing. We were there with gorgeous people whom we didn’t even know this time last year. Raucous singing, lots of laughs and then husband and I both had a moment; a little tear thinking of loved ones who would never see our little terrors dance to Jingle Bells. I then teared up for a special, beautiful lady, whose family will spend their first Christmas with an ache in their heart as they hold on to her memory.
And then the fireworks exploded.
It was the first time the kids had seen them.
We watched their faces.
And that, right there, was the true spirit of Christmas.
The missing link I had been waiting for.
The reminder to relax and hold on to what’s important.
I will be spending the next little while with friends & family, so wishing you all an incredible Christmas.
