Last Saturday, my son turned 6.
What does every good parent do on their child’s birthday?
Head to the races of course. (OK; he did have his much loved Aunt visiting from the West to look after him, he had a morning party with an awesome Pirate and he had Maccas for dinner, so don’t make me feel too terrible about this).
Even so, for about 7 hours, I was ‘Anna’…even ‘Babe’ as his beer kicked in. Not, “Mum, Mum, Mum, Mum, Muuuummmmm!”
Husband and I got dressed in record time and shot incredibly fast out the door. If I didn’t have heels on I would have skipped.
My dress was by the Red Dot Boutique (and of course it came on sale the day after I bought it). My makeup was clearly by me, in about 5 minutes flat, peeling kids off my legs and rummaging through bags to find my fave lippy (which is still MIA, by the way). I splashed out and bought a cute little fascinator; my husband clearly noticed it and LOVED it so much. Check out the photo below that he took of my outfit. Think this may have been about 3 beers in, so the fog effect is actually just blur; no filter necessary.

What really made me feel fabulous (apart from the sparkling wine after hosting a kids party), was my jewellery by Uberkate. Now, I will be writing more about this company, because…just take a look at it. I have coveted this cocktail ring for months, (in that one day, I had 2 complete strangers comment on it) and the matching earrings just tied everything together.
Don’t look too closely or you’ll see the greys…but isn’t that supposed to be lucky on race day? Look at that cocktail ring and earrings; thanks Uberkate. LOVE!!!!
To top off our day, ‘we’ (and technically I mean ‘he’ as I back horses based on funny names and colours) had a few wins. He strolled through the crowd with his wide grin asking complete strangers where you go to collect. Proud much? Also, Jason Derulo played a free concert at the end. We were the couple who accidentally found ourselves at the front miming words and trying to pretend we were ‘down’ with it…until the blisters really started kicking in…
The best part?
Coming home to find our kids had had a fabulous day and were sound asleep.
