Last Friday morning, right when I was mid ‘sweets cannot be eaten for breakfast’ negotiations with my 4 year old, and simultaneously searching under the couch cushions for my son’s school hat, I happened to glance out the lounge room window. My car was parked on the street and the car in front of it was parked incredibly close; like, too close, like, “sh*t, she’s hit it and there she is on the footpath crying,” close.
You know, in the big picture; she was distraught, no one was hurt, she was insured and honest, and it was a pretty ‘good’ accident to be involved in (if that makes any sense). Even so, I wrangled my son to school with the little one hanging on to my legs, and I realised I was actually a little shocked and shaken, despite not having been physically in the crash.
So to the lovely Mum at drop-off who have me a hug when I recounted the mornings activities, and asked ME if I was OK? You have no idea what that meant. Thank you.
There is also a load of bills to pay in my inbox and we are facing some massive decisions about future work and life. My son freaked out about going to the school disco the other night and I cannot work out what is going on there. I am getting anxious about North Korea and I feel nervous bringing the kids to public places in case of acts of terrorism. And it goes on…and on…and on.
My brain is often exhausted.
Am I OK?
Yep. Mostly.
Even so.
Today is an incredibly important day to take stock of yourself and those around you.
Today, please take the time to check yourself and your friends.
I am no health professional, so apart from fresh air and chocolate, all I ask is that you chat to someone you trust if you’re not feeling great. I encourage others to ask the question and LISTEN when people answer. Take action if need be.
Today is the official R U OK? day here in Australia; so are you?
R U OK?
Love and hugs to you all.
