Just FYI:
I
was thrilled to be gifted a 3 month subscription to Little Passports (Early Explorers) and have
loved it so much, I am now proud to be affiliated with their company. If you
like what you see; click on the link on this page…yep…to the right there and scroll down…there! (& of course…if you make a purchase, I earn some pretty coin – win win).

Like
all cool travel stories, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

As
my desert, bucking bronco took off towards the Pyramids with me flailing wildly
on its back, I wondered why I didn’t just walk, like all the clever people
flashing past beside me.

There
they were; taking it all in, snapping photos, ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’ at this
amazing sight.

There
I was; a bruised ego (and backside), a vague, blurred memory of the Pyramids and a lifelong fear
of horses.

Oh…yes…such a sweet looking horse to start with…hiding its demon eyes… |
But
it did get better.
it did get better.
In
fact, stepping off planes into a new city fast became an addictive thrill. The
drone of motorcycles, snowflakes melting on my face, the cry of market sellers,
humidity being sucked into my skin; so many cultures; so many places to see; so
little time.

And
then…well…it stopped.

Just
like that.
like that.
The
reality is, a mortgage and two kids brought that ‘we won’t let kids change us’
fantasy to a crashing halt. My passport expired and my good intentions to
create some glossy coffee books of our travel photos were pushed aside by
maternal health appointments, toilet training disasters and Peppa Pig episodes. Quite
frankly, a trip to see the lions at the zoo with little ones (before morning
sleep time) is a heck of a lot easier (and cheaper) than a trip to Africa.
Until they can both shower, toilet, feed and carry their bags independently;
local is good.

Always fun times at the #melbournezoo |
But
that lust for travel lingers and we wanted to be able to share that with our
kids.

Enter Little Passports. Even the name
excites me.

Cute little suitcase to keep everything together |
It is a subscription based ticket to the world, as seen through the
eyes of Max, Mia and their dog, Toby. Firstly, it begins with a little suitcase
(cute AND practical for storage), and each month you receive stickers,
figurines/souvenirs, suitcase tags and all sorts of info to feed my kids
growing appetite for the constant Hows? Whens? And Whys? The excitement of
receiving that package addressed to them in the mailbox, may not be quite akin
to my racing heart at customs, but it’s a step closer. And placing stickers on
a bright world map, completing the activities and collecting the trading cards,
beats random Mario Brother’s clips on
YouTube (ooops).

And
more questions…always the questions…from the wacky, “a tower made of
pizza? Let’s go there, Mummy”, to the hopeful, “Can we go see the Polar Bears
after lunch today?” Well, let me just
check my diary for today, honey, and see if we can squeeze it in….

Wonders of the world literally on my doorstep! |
I
was lucky to be given a three month Early
Explorers subscription to trial, aimed at 3-5 year olds, and it has been
spot on with topics and quirky information designed to pique my son’s interest.
But I must warn you; it is not a babysitter whilst you sort through yet another
load of washing (although, if you are a good multi-tasker….??). You do need to
sit down with them and get them going on an activity. But the fun part is the
conversation; the little cries of wonder; the different way of looking at the
world through the eyes of a four old (and the flashback to the humidity and
smells and beaches and days of ‘freedom’…).

So
if one of your New Year’s Resolutions was to spend more quality time with the
kids, or to reduce their screen time, or even to start planning more family holidays
together, check this idea out…

But
for now, Husband and I will plot and plan and dream; and blow the dust off a
few old albums to show the kids…we will let Little Passports do the rest as
it helps to mould our little travel buddies.
