My morning
at the#bellabox Beauty Lab….
at the#bellabox Beauty Lab….
The doors slid back to reveal a crammed carriage
of commuters. Those not gazing intently at their phones, stared wistfully out
the rain splashed windows dreaming of the beach…anywhere really, except that
9am meeting.

Not a seat in sight.
I was a ‘peak hour commuter’.
I had somewhere to be.
I white knuckled the pole and spread my feet,
pretending I knew the standing train rocking dance. You see, today I had been
selected to attend the bellabox HQ in the city. bellabox? Have you heard? Monthly boxes of beauty goodies to your door? De-luxe. Creche had been frantically
booked for the morning, and a bit of juggling and IOU’s saw the kids being
dropped off and picked up. Logistics out of the way, it soon became the big
questions of, what to wear, what to say and what exactly was I going to be doing?

We had been informed that we would be looking at
a brand called Sebamed and I had been sent a sample product to try. It was an

Would I need to get naked? In front of…well…other people…
‘Cos…I was wearing a sports bra and pink socks
under my ‘going out’ clothes and I’m pretty sure they are not considered ‘on
trend’ in any universe. No. The answer is no…obviously. Not a dot of nudity. Amen , sister.

Enough of that.
It was time. After nearly stacking it on
the footpath (apparently busy ladies,
with big bags, in a bustling hurry don’t need to apologise),
I made it to bb Headquarters. It is as you would expect. Oozing class and
sophistication; it was sleek, yet welcoming and full of the beautiful people.
And they already had the cakes out. It was 9am and those little, dainty,
decadent cupcakes were whispering my name….

No…NO! I was here on business.
One by one, we visitors filed in, pleasantries
were exchanged…I looked around the group and mentally registered that I was
there as the ‘mature skinned mumma’. They were all gorgeous younger girls with
equally gorgeous younger skin. OK; so I had something unique to contribute.
After a run down about NOT looking at the cameras (as they filmed the whole
thing), I gave the camera my best cheesy grin and began to listen intently to
Sam, one of the bellabox beautiful people.

She began to deconstruct the product….pH
balance? Skin damage? Alkaline v. acidic? Had I been living under a rock? It
would seem I was concentrating too much on the boys during Yr 10 Science class
and missed all this stuff. After a bit of nifty, “hey presto” pH level
experiments on our skin, it became glaringly obvious I needed to pay attention
here. We were not being sold the product. It was not rammed down our throats.
It was purely an informative, ‘everyday woman’ feedback session.

The product was a German brand called Sebamed;
featuring a range of lotions designed to lock in your natural moisture content.
Let me break it down for you in my lingo…

But,
I have to tell you that my skin, once supple and clear, is rapidly sagging
south and my four year old would enjoy a game of join-the-sun dots on my face.
My ‘beauty regime’…or…let’s just call it as it is…my face washing,
liberal layers of moisturiser and daily emergency covering of foundation, just
isn’t cutting it anymore and is possibly causing more damage. My body is treated
to lashings of sorbolene (or whatever might be on sale at the supermarket that
month), the luxury of exfoliating is unheard of in a house with toddlers, and
sometimes I feel a little lost in my own skin.

I am
not looking for a product that is going to solve all my problems overnight…no…that
is called ‘magic’. Rather, I need something to help put the brakes on my ageing
skin, and more importantly, I need something to make me ‘feel good’. I am
chasing that illusive shimmer and softness…I need something to help ‘me’ feel
more like ‘me’. I also have one episode of Peppa
Pig to have my shower, moisturise and get dressed. Obviously time is against me, so it is important that I
can slip my clothes straight on without that greasy or claggy feel. Rather, after
previously using my sample of Sebamed, my body felt clean and cool and my skin
genuinely lapped this cream up.

I truly
liked it. I told the camera so and I meant every word.

I
have also fallen a bit further in love with bellabox. A monthly box of divine
little goodies and newbies? Delivered straight to your door? Lip gloss and nail polish and
moisturisers…and well…anything really…that’s part of the surprise. What
isn’t to love? The bb crew listened intently to what we all had to say. I felt
part of the team. I also came away with some seriously amazing goodie bags.

If
you are already a bb girl and ever get the chance to go to one of these sessions, make the time. OR if
you are looking for something wonderful for yourself (just because…), or a truly special gift for a friend, jump on line and
have a look…but make sure you have time set aside, because I promise you, you
WILL get lost in that world of glamour, splashes of colour and that special dotty box
of bb beauty. So thank you to the amazing team at bellabox, for giving me a sunshine day, despite the rain.
